Having a good skincare routine is very important for the health of your skin. In today’s blog, I wanted to share the steps & products I use for my simple nighttime skincare routine. All of these vegan & cruelty-free products have worked well on my skin so I am recommending them for you to try. Video below.
Dealing With My Skin Conditions
I have eczema and rosacea. Eczema is a condition where patches of skin become inflamed, itchy, red, and rough. Rosacea a skin condition that causes redness and visible blood vessels in your face. I haven’t had a rosacea flare up for years but my skin gets a little red once in a while, but not to the point of irritation. And I have had my Eczema under control ever since I started to moisturize with products that my skin responds well to.
Night Time Skincare Routine
Step 1: Remove makeup
I start by removing all my makeup with the Makeup Eraser Towel. The one I used is a small one I got as a freebie from Sephora. I love this product so much. It does a good job at removing the majority of your makeup and it’s a much better alternative to makeup wipes.
The towel is eco-friendly, you can wash them and reuse them. They can last you for a few years. So imagine how much money it can save you in the long run without creating additional waste. I Highly recommend it.
To start you just need to soak it in warm water, the wetter the towel is the better it will remove your makeup. I just place it over my eye makeup for a few seconds and start wiping the makeup off. After a few seconds, it will also start to loosen your lash glue so you can remove your lashes. To remove my mascara I run the towel on my lashes the same way I would run my mascara wand. Then proceed to wipe the rest of the makeup off of your face.
Step 2: Cleansing Oil
Now that most of my makeup is gone, I’m going to start my double cleansing routine. In my opinion, this is the best way to clean your skin. If I’m not wearing any makeup or a light application, I skip Step 1 and start with the PURITO from Green Cleansing Oil. This oil will melt or break up a light application of makeup, sunscreen, and other pollutants on your skin. PURITO is a Korean brand, Korean skincare is very popular & mostly known for using natural ingredients to restore skin health. This is the first Korean product that I’ve used and tried and I love it! I can’t wait to try more.
I gently massage it all over my face, especially the sides of my nose in the crease and down along my lashes to break down any remaining mascara. And also down my neck especially if you ran your makeup or sunscreen down your neck, we need to break it all down.
Step 3: Face Cleanser
Now to wash the oil, makeup, and dirt off I use e.l.f.’s Daily Face Cleanser. About a pea size amount and massage on my face and neck. Then I rinse everything off with lukewarm water and wipe the excess of water off my face. And what I’m about to share now has been a game-changer in my skincare routine. I do not pat dry my face with a towel, just the water running down my chest but otherwise I leave it damp.
The reason why I keep my skin damp is that I want to seal the moisture or water inside my skin with the last two steps. When you wash your skin and dry your face with a towel you accelerate the transepidermal water loss in your skin, which is the evaporation of the water that can leave your skin dehydrated.
Step 4: Oil & Facial Massage
To keep the moisture in my skin I use the Josie Maran 100% Pure Argan Oil (Light), only a few drops for my whole face and neck. This oil keeps my skin so moisturized throughout the whole night without clogging my pores. This is one of my favorite products. I sometimes use serums instead of argan oil.
And this is when I use my Gua Sha if you are not familiar this is a flat stone used for facial massages to boost blood circulation and stimulating the lymphatic system. I learned about it from TikTok videos, so I’m still new at this. I also do other facial massages with my hands, it makes my face muscles feel good. I only do these massages about two times a week and after all this fun stuff I’m ready for the last step.
Step 5: Night Cream
To finally lock all the moisture in my skin I use e.l.f.’s Nourishing Night Cream. I use my knuckles to get the product out of the jar, I don’t like sticking my fingers in and getting product stuck under my nail.
So I place this cream all over my face, neck, and use it as an eye cream as well! I have used eye creams here and there but after having skin issues, seeing different dermatologists, and asking a lot of questions I’ve been told there isn’t much of a difference in formula between a moisturizer and eye cream. This has simplified my skincare routine and saved me money by not purchasing them since they tend to sell at high prices for what they are.
All of this is based on my personal opinion and experience and I’m not saying I would never buy an eye cream, it’s just not a necessity for my skincare routine.
Lastly, I add a bit of Kopari Coconut Melt on my lips to keep them moisturized all night.
And this concludes my 5 Step simple nighttime skincare routine. I hope you found it helpful and if you want to see the steps in real-time action check the video down below.
